This six-year old shire horse known as “Noddy” was born in Pakenham Australia and is over 20 hands high and 1.3 tonnes in weight.

“The massive horse, whose full name is Luscombe Nordram, was born in Australia to a mare and sire imported from England. Noddy’s grandfather, Ladbrooke Edward (UK) was the world’s tallest horse during the 1980’s.”

Health-savvy people are very accepting of flossing, brushing and oral rinses for maintaining good dental hygiene… for humans.

When it comes to pets, the same good health habits have merit in protecting their health. Like humans, pets can also get Gingivitis… diseased and bleeding gums.

Three Dog Life…

Three family dogs provide solace…

It always amazes me, even after all this time of it happening, how books leap into my hands just when I need them.

I almost never go into a bookstore looking for a specific book… instead I go in with a feeling, of need.

A need for an answer, a need for inspiration, a need for information, though I may not know what that information is exactly. And, in almost every instance, the perfect book finds me.

I leisurely roam around, glancing at titles, until the perfect book jumps out at me, almost leaping into my hands. Such was the case this week when the book “A Three Dog Life” by Abigail Thomas appeared. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Every once in a while an email brings outright laughter… this was the case today when I read “Hooked on Phonics (From the diary of a Preschool Teacher).”  I know that all you pet lovers will get a kick out of this too… Enjoy!

My five-year old students are learning to read.

Calm Your Pet Before Surgery

Checking In with how your pet feels…

Like any good parent, a pet owner carefully weighs any decision for surgery for the pet. Second or third opinions are sought as well as all the alternatives to having the pet go through a surgery at all.

We know that our pets can sense our fears and hesitancy… when we’re anxious, happy, fearful, angry, etc. They, like children, can mimic and mirror our feelings, some of which we may not even be aware.

If facing surgery, our pets are likely to already be out-of-sorts from the symptoms of their ailment. They can also add to this stress by sensing our own discomfort… the pet gets anxious over the impending surgery simply by getting the negative vibes from us.

There is a way to address our own fears and calm our pets before surgery…
