Spring and the trees are full of bird song! Birds are doing their mating dances in earnest. Their mating sounds woke me this morning… two seagulls were loudly courting on my deck railing. When I peered out, the display of flamenco dancing I saw could rival any episode of Dancing With the Stars. What passion and excitement! What elan!

While thinking of privacy for these birds in their courtship, I could not help but watch the proud and majestic strutting, billing and cooing. Reminded me of Turtle Doves. Looks like they’ve decided to make my large planter home. It is filled with branches and evergreen shrubs and has a million dollar view. Just too great to pass up.

I’ll take the compliment and do what I can to leave these two love birds in peace as their little family. I’ll enjoy seeing the babies when they arrive. Unlike what would appear to be the majority of people, I really like seagulls. I think they are fascinating and funny. Check out Fred, a one-in-a-million seagull in the Million Dollar PetPix time capsule. I love the story of this pet seagull and hope you will too.

A friend in Stuart FL has a bigger concern. When we were chatting last night he told me that two mourning doves were nesting on the top of his garage door opener.  This friend is an avid pet lover and so has decided to leave his garage door open until the nest is not needed. What a very sweet gesture. His neighbor suggested moving the nest (with gloves on to leave no human odor elsewise the eggs would not be tended to) and I sort of agree, but would feel really sad if the nest was moved and a cat got the birds. Nature knows how to take care of itself and so the doves were quite prudent in choosing the garage perch… funny, but prudent.

The spring bug has bitten, so I am off for a belated holiday. Destination… the “big water” to watch the birds, enjoy the sun and fresh air and just rejuvinate. I’ll be thoroughly immersed in Earth Day activities.

Catch you back here in a few days as I do not intend to take my ’puter. Hope you’ll join your community in making Earth Day 2008 one of the best ever. Enjoy!
