Another Recall of Dry Pet Food?
The Center for Disease Control is still receiving reports of new salmonella infections.
I read a news report today that says that there is still pet food in people’s homes that should have been returned when a recall was made last year. Mars Pet Care recalled the pet food last summer sold under the brand names Krasdale and Red Flannel but apparently some of this toxic pet food is still around.
In the consumer report on this ABClocal news briefing we’re urged not to handle any dry pet food in general in order to prevent getting a salmonella infection.
You should not keep your pets foods in the kitchen or feed your pet in the kitchen because that increases the likelihood it could get into other things. - Dr. Ostroff
This statement boggles the mind!It greatly concerns me. If one has to wear rubber gloves to protect themselves from any substance, or keep it away from our own food source, then what on earth are we thinking about if we then feed this to our special pets? If this pet food is toxic enough to make me sick just in the handling, it should be thrown out. Why would I give it to a pet to ingest? This is just pure nonsense!

It is no wonder that more and more pet websites appear daily with recipes for home-made pet food and urgings for pet lovers to keep away from commercial pet food. For the busy professional this thought of all the extra work may feel onerous. There are a number of solutions cropping up however in the form of specialty pet food that is organic or at least made of whole foods as well as holistic nutritional supplements for pets.
