Dog is author of environmentally-friendly book and website…

Thanks to the cool information provided by a “green” dog in Colorado who is now a bona-fide author we can pass along this little tidbit of pet information…

In San Francisco since1996, biodegradable poop bags are placed in dog parks for people to deposit dog waste in special bins. The poop is hauled to a methane digester to be combined with plant material, which works like a composter. Microorganisms gorge on the waste, producing methane gas, biogas. That is used to make electricity or burned in place of natural gas.

“Biogas is rapidly renewable. I’m talking two weeks to turn poop to gas, instead of eons to turn plants into coal. And that’s not a load of crap!” Cedar writes.

In past posts we’ve talked a lot about the need for Poop ‘n’ Scoop and using biodegradable poop bags… so it is great to see this shining example set by San Francisco to help people develop better habits and to actually go that step farther in handling the bins of waste material in an environmentally-friendly way.
