November is National Pet Cancer Awareness Month
November has been designated as the month for pet cancer awareness…
Cancer is the leading cause of death in older cats and dogs but is also the most treatable disease, compared to congestive heart failure, kidney failure and diabetes. Pet owners are strongly advised to take their pets to their vet for a check-up twice a year as a way to ensure early detection of cancer.
Some of the common signs of cancer in pets include:
- Loss of appetite
- Chronic weight loss
- Drooling or really bad breath
- Difficulty with eating or swallowing
- Changes in exercise or energy level
- Lameness
- Change in bowel or bladder habits
- Abnormal lumps, swellings or swollen lymph nodes
- Unexplained bleeding or discharge
- A sore that does not heal
