A recent poll taken by People Magazine suggests that the Labradoodle should be chosen over the Portuguese Water Dog as the family pet for President Obama’s family.

Both breeds have been contenders as they are hypoallergenic dogs which should keep allergies at bay. The dogs breeds that comply with this requirement, according to the American Kennel Club, include the:

- Bedlington Terrier
- Bichon Frise
- Chinese Crested (hairless)
- Irish Water Spaniel
- Kerry Blue Terrier
- Maltese
- Poodles (Toy, Miniature or Standard)
- Portuguese Water Dog
- Schnauzer (Miniature, Standard or Giant)
- Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier
- Viringo (Peruvian hairless)
- Xoloitzcuintli (hairless)
