You cats will jump for joy with this electronic version of catnip…

Many cat owners already know the fun that can be derived from using a hand-held laser pointer as a pet toy to entertain their cats… the cats jump and leap around to catch the illusive laser beam. The cat owner usually tires of this laser pointer game long before the cat does, as most laser pointers for pets require that the activation button be continually pressed… tough on thumbs. But now there is a new way for your cat (or your dogs) to follow the red dot…

A new pet product called the FroliCat™ BOLT™ is a table-top laser pointer for cats (or dogs) which works automatically and emits a long red laser beam to random points at various speeds. The FroliCat™ BOLT™ has won awards at the Global Pet Expo, the pet industry’s largest annual trade show, that was held in Orlando, Florida in February this year. No more thumb problems for pet owners. Learn more here about the FroliCat BOLT.

Note: One concern about any laser pointers for pets is when pets stare into the beam itself. We know that direct viewing of a laser-beam is unhealthy for people, so cat owners should be careful to protect their pets from this habit. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and numerous eye doctors, the human eye can suffer serious damage as the result of lasers.

“When it hits the retina, it can cause damage if the intensity of the light, the energy level of the light, is very great and if it’s for a long enough duration. So I think the potential exists for permanent visual loss.” - Dr. Robert Neger

Dogs apparently enjoy this form of entertainment as much as or more than cats. The big difference according to pet owners experienced with laser pointers and pets is that dogs seem to get “hooked” on this type of play, which many pet owners feel is not healthy for their pet. So, as with everything else in life, using laser pointers for pets in moderation is likely a good idea.
