Pet Star Gets Own Stamp!
A much-loved canine hero will now be getting his own stamp as the US Postal service commemorates celebrities from the 50’s. The stamp edition is called “Early TV Memories” and the stamps are now available for purchase.
These stamps feature classic TV characters from the 1950’s and one of those being celebrated is the beautiful, intelligent Collie and Hollywood star named Lassie.
This quick-witted canine hero entertained countless Boomers with all sorts of wonderful adventures. In each episode, Lassie could be relied upon to be the hero-of-the-day. Lassie Jr., a ninth-generation, direct descendant of the original Lassie is shown here at the dedication ceremony for the “Early TV Memories” commemorative stamps in Los Angeles posing with actress June Lockhart, whom also starred in the “Lassie” television series.
Some of the human characters and TV shows honored are:
- Steve Allen
- Hopalong Cassidy
- Ozzie & Harriet
- Perry Mason
- I Love Lucy
- Milton Berle
- George Burns & Gracie Allen
- The Honeymooners
Maybe Clifford the Big Red Dog and Scooby-Doo will one day be commemorated in a some special way as pet caricatures and Benji may one day get his own stamp. For the rest of us in the pet lover community who own terrific pets and want to celebrate them, there is a neat and novel way to do this…
