October is National Pet Wellness Month
October is National Pet Health Month…
This month you can expect to see ads about pet health and pet care compliments of your local veterinarian. Participating veterinary clinics nationwide are hoping to educate us on proper pet health care and the importance of having a health care plan in place for our pets.
This education blitz about pet health suggests making a three-step pet health plan which includes:
1) Twice-a-year wellness exams so that your vet to get a base-line of your pet’s health and to diagnose, treat and prevent health problems before they become serious. These visits are anĀ ideal time to talk with the veterinary team about your pet’s behavior, nutrition, heartworm, flea and tick control, and other issues that can impact your pet’s wellness and lifestyle.
2) Disease Prevention is another important part of this pet health plan… understanding your pet’s environment and the possible exposure to various disease threats is needed to plan disease prevention such as vaccination and parasite control programs. Before committing to any vaccination program, be sure to read this pet vaccination article, as there is much debate about over-vaccination today.
3) Pet Health Insurance is a good idea, especially for unexpected medical expenses, with the costs of vet services today! Be sure to research all the options for pet insurance before making your decision and read this article about pet insurance.
