Pets do matter to people, even when human lives are endangered!

Having a pet website may seem like a frivolous thing to many. In relation to all the famine and disaster in the world and the worry about basic human survival… well yes, a pet blog is hugely insignificant. But it is incredibly interesting to know that even amidst major disasters, that money, effort and emotions are also spent to rescue animals… even by the very people whose lives are in peril from whatever natural disaster is plaguing them.

Former 007 and Foie Gras

A very disturbing email came across my desk today… one that made me physically ill. It was contained in a petition to try to bring awareness about a very cruel industry in China, as a way to help to stop it. The industry? Pet fur for use in garments… pet fur from little puppies who are actually skinned alive! I could not watch the attached video and do not have enough words to condemn this cruelty.Filling out the petition form on-line is a start…

Mange… the dreaded skin disease that can occur in pets, causes great concern for pet owners. Once a death sentence for many pets, mange is now more easily diagnosed and treated. There are two types of mange which pet owners should know about… the most common type of mange is called demodectic mange, often referred to as read mange while the second type of mange is called sarcoptic mange in dogs or notoedric mange in cats.
