Dog Bites and Dog Bytes

Did you know that an estimated 4.7 million people are bitten by dogs each year? An ad that often runs for a US lawyer recently claimed to have won a settlement of three hundred thousand dollars for a client whose child had been bitten by a dog.

Peace, Tranquility & Laughing Dogs…

Like the giggle of babies that charm us and restore our positive view of the world, a dog’s laughter has been proven to calm other animals. Yes, dogs do laugh. Many might mistake their laughter for heavy panting, but in fact Patricia Simonet, an applied animal behaviorist and research scientist, who counsels pets and their humans and researchs the behaviors of animals. She has studied dog laughter, dog rules during play and reducing stress in shelter dogs by broadcasting a recording of dog laughter.

Goldfish? Boring? No Longer!

Pet lovers have trained pets for centuries. We have dancing dogs, dancing horses and now sport-playing and dancing goldfish! Amazing as this sounds, a company called R2 Solutions is quickly gaining fame wih their new goldfish training kit.

The training? Soccer, basketball, doing the limbo, slalom swimming and go-fetch. Yes really.

What does one do to celebrate Pet Owner’s Day?
Can’t really see the pet dog, pet horse or pet iguana bringing a tray of goodies to their owner, though our pet cat is often bearing gifts of birds from the garden.

Martha Says Goodbye to Paw Paw, Her One-in-a-Million Dog

We feel great sympathy for Martha Stewart for recent loss. Her gorgeous and good-natured ChowChow she named PawPaw passed away on Saturday April 12 2008. Surrounded by his faithful family and friends, Martha, his loyal caretaker Lily and Carlos and his pet pals Francesca and Sharkey, PawPaw quietly slipped away.
