Pet lovers who continually spend money on their special pets will not be surprised by the latest facts about pet ownership… the millions of cats and dogs, birds, horses, mice and other companion animals and the spending on pets which in 2007 reached $41.2-billion in total in the USA alone according to the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association. The term designer dogs has taken on a new meaning as has the term “one-in-a-million” pet. A company called Bioarts International has successfully cloned a dog, after spending $20,000,000 that is. Three dogs have been produced to replace the CEO’s family dog Missy who died in 2002. The cloning idea came to mind in 1997 when Dolly the sheep was cloned.
